Default Leupold Scope Choice

Okay. I ordered the Remington LSS Mountain Rifle in .260 today. I am trying to decide on the Leupold Vari-X II in 4-12x40mm with AO or the Vari-X III in 3.5-10x40mm which does not have the Adustable Objective. Also, how much better is the Vari-X II then the III? Should I invest $50 more for the 50mm objective. Deer rifle for western states out to 200-250yds.

Thanks in advance.

For 250 yard shots even the 2.5x8 varix iii will do fine. You don't need 12 power or a 50mm lens.

The VX-II 3x9 40mm can be had online for $270. Its not an adjustable objective. Might save yourself a few bucks with that. That's all a lot of people ever use.

I would use the 3.5-10X40. Good luck.

No need for the 50mm objective. I would go with the VXIII 2.5-8X36mm or the VXII 3-9X40mm. Either will suit you just fine.

If you feel comfortable with more magnification, the 3.5-10x40mm would be nice, as well. No need for any more magnification than that.

The Vari-X II IS NOT BETTER than the Vari-X III!! It is the other way around!! Magnification has nothing to do with scope quality!!

Keep yore powder dry!!

A 3.5-10 power scope will do just fine for long range shooting. I uses a 3-9 power to hunt pronghorn and thats plenty of scope...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would go with a 2x7x33, seeing how you are putting it on a lightweight rifle.Just as well keep it as light as possible. I used to use 3x9 and 3x10 on my deer rifles years ago,put a 2x7 on about 10yrs ago,and have put 3 on since. Zeak
