If I am not mistaken ,The Vari-X III has better lens coating than the Vari-XII.That is why they cost more. Also the older Vari-XII scopes did not have click type adjustments.I don't know about the newer models.

the VX-II have there lens coated on one side. the vari-X III has both sides of there lenses coated.

i would go with a 2-7X33mm or a variX-III 2.5-8X36mm

I say the Varix III 3.5 x 10 x 50MM. I have this exact scope and I can tell you it is a very nice optic. I am a big fan of the 50MM objective and would never top a gun without at least a 44MM. a 50mm will give you 2% more light gathering than the 40mm and that can be the difference between shot or no shot. If you hunt low light situation, which most of do than imo the 50 buck is well spent.
