Lightfield Slug question
#11
I shoot Lightfields in my Remmy 1100, and they shoot great. As per the instructions on Lightfields website, I intially sighted them in 2" high at 50 yards and they are dead center at 100 yards. Drop at 125 is right at 4" and that is fine with me. They may not be the most modern slug available, but they are what shoots best in my gun. I tried the SST's last year and they best they did was a 4.5" group at 100 yards. 1oz Barnes Expanders from Federal also shoot pretty good in my gun as well. But I stick with the lightfields because they are a little more accurate, and more importantly $3/box cheaper.

OK, here's the range report for my Lightfield Hybreds EXP 12 gauge. After sighting in at 2 inches high at 50 yards this is a picture of my 100 yard target. Six shot group, not sniper accurate but it will work. I'm pretty pleased with these out of my Mossberg 500, rifled cantilever barrel with a Nikon Pro Staff 2x7x32. The Shoot-N-See patches and other holes were from Remington Copper Solids. They didn't shoot worth a damn out of my Mossberg.

I shoot Lightfields out of my 20 gauge H&R Ultra Slug. I shoot 2" high one hole groups at 50 yards, dead on at 100 yards and about 2.5" low and 3.5"groups at 125 Yards. I haven't shot it any futher than that, most of my shots will be inside of 100 yards. Before this gun I used a Wincherster Ranger auto with a rifled choke tube and Remington Copper Solids and it was a sniper out to 75 yards. Then after about 10 years it I could not get it to group, think the tube was shot out.

I took a small buck monday with the SST's at 75 yards. The bullet went clean thru with small entrance and exit holes. It does not look like it expanded at all. The deer went 75-100 yards after the shot before it dropped.
I am sticking with them. I am pretty confident with them as I hunt around alot of open areas that may require the 100+ yard shot.

I use Lightfield Hybred EXPslugs in my fathers 11-87 20 ga.It has a 21" fully rifled barrel with the cantilever mount and a Nikon 2-7x32mm Prostaff Shotgun Scope. I'm shooting1 1/2" groups at 50 yardsand 4 inch groups at 100 yards. It was windy that day so I'm sure it'll shoot better then that at 100 yards.I sighted it in2" high at 50 yards per Lightfields web site and it wasat zero at 100 yards. This set up shoots pretty well. It doesn't seem to like the faster 1900 to 2000 fps slugs. When I get my scope back fromLeupold for my 11-87 12 ga., I'm going to try both the Lightfield 2 3/4"Hyberd EXP andthe 3" Hybred-Elite Magnum slugs in it.My 12 ga. didn't seem to like thefaster slugs either. To be fair though, there was something wrong withmy scope when I shot them, so Ihave to start from scatch.

your right. It took a little thinking to realize that if it is a couple inches high at 50 yds that the bullet is still rising at that point and then doesn't seem to drift as far down at 75 yds, but it It is already at the top of its trajectory at that range then it's gonna drop a bunch down range.
I guess what I am saying is that if I am not setting up for the trajectory that they suggest, then I am all but guessing where it will hit past where I zero at.

LOL!!
I try and take the targets off and examine them at home after I shoot a group. Good eye there..
