Stop being a jackass!
Stop being a jackass? I'd be willing to bet you there are quite a few newbies that come here and don't know the difference...

Why is it being a J.Ass to point out the difference and try tohelp them know the difference?

If they are going to talk guns to their friends, (who also may not know the difference) they may as well talk intelligent, and get them started off on the right foot too...

DM
As a fellow poster who locks alot of horns in real life and on the internet, let me show you how it could have gone done, and not be a Ja. Remember, you asked why a JA, so this is not a hard and fast rule, but a suggestion.

A quick and simple explaination could have been, "Hey, thats cartridge has alot of recoil and muzzle blast so not for me, but I assume you meant cartridge, not caliber, am I right?".

I bet ya, it wouldn't have been taken as JA or rude. Just a thought.;)

Just to beat a dead horse, check out how Remington classifies its rifles. I was checking out the "cartriges" the CDL is offered in, and noticed that they refered to it as "caliber". So Who's right?

I don't know who is right, but i do know this...

When someone ask something like, "Will my 7mm kill a moose?" What's the NEXT question that you see for an answer????????? Everyone wants to know WHAT 7mm???

BUT,

When someone ask "Will my 7mm Rem. Mag. kill a moose?" NO ONE ask, what caliber is it???? They wouldn't ask if someonewanted to knowif a 30-06 will kill a moose either, but what if they asked if their 30 cal. could kill a moose??? Is ita 30 carbine they are asking about,or a 30-06 they are asking about?

In my mind that pretty much answers your question...

My origional point was to try to get some of the new less experienced guys all on the same page to sound a bit more knowledgable. But,apparently having more knowledge on something as simple as this offends some of you.

So i guess you'd rather wade through post after post with folks trying to figure out what cartridge posters are refering to when asking about calibers???

I've been around here a long time, and i've wrote up a fair amount on wildcats, even some i dreamed up and produced... Do you really think i didn't know what a .338x378 was???

I guess the point i was trying to make flew right by most here, and that's fine...

weathers been weird been makin it hard to get the 20 on the yotes its dry as usuall but the mornings have been quite frigid but we are still getting into the 80s and 90s in the afternoon. we should be in the 50s and have had some snow by now. we've got a fire about 5 miles away luckily its on the other side of the mountain and its somewhat contained but we are in dire need of some moisture. always good to know what going on over there take care
