RE: Caliber Of The Week.
Stop being a jackass! Why is it being a J.Ass to point out the difference and try tohelp them know the difference? If they are going to talk guns to their friends, (who also may not know the difference) they may as well talk intelligent, and get them started off on the right foot too... DM |
RE: Caliber Of The Week.
I'm going to go the other way and nominate the venerable .30-06 Springfield. Great for everything on hooves on the North American continent, just pick the right bullet for the job at hand. It'll also do well in a pinch vs. the big bears if one comes looking for you, but a big bore would be a better choice if you're actually out looking for them. Unfortunately, the truth is that even the '06 is more than some shooters can honestly handle from a lightweight rifle.
Super-magnums like the .XXX-378 Wby Mags are interesting because they are rare, exotic and offer astonishing performance, but do little that a much smaller and more reasonable round hasn't already been doing for decades (almost 102 years for the '06). There is a good reason that there are at least 100 rifles chambered for .30-06 for every one chambered for a super-mag, and it's not because the '06 is underpowered. Mike |
RE: Caliber Of The Week.
Driftrider,The 30.06 might be next week.I don't know yet ,But thanks for the input.Like I said this is just a fun for guns post.I expect when I get to the 30.06 it will go wild;).Right now I am trying to go big then little. If someone else would like to add their "ROUND"of the week .That would be great.I just thought this would be fun.
Ridge! It's not going to be long untill I get to our 7MM STW ![]() |
RE: Caliber Of The Week.
ORIGINAL: Ridge Runner drift comparing the 06 to the 338/378 or its proverbial twinn the 338 kubla kahne, is like comparing a renault to a lambrogini diablo, there both cars but it starts and ends there. the big 338's will stay supersonic to just past 2 miles, try the 30/06, it'll barely make 1200 yards. any rifle that fires a heavy bullet at high velocity will recoil, but thats easily fixed. RR I can honestly say that any cartridge with "-378 Wby Mag" in it's name won't find it's way into my safe. The only Wby I'm really remotely interested in is the .257 Wby, but the .25-06 is close enough that I can't justify the extra cost of the Wby. Just my opinion. Mike |
