Shotgun season for whitetail is fast approaching and I will be using my mossberg 500 with the slugster cantilever barell with scope. 20 gauge. My problem is that I have a bit of a bum right shoulder and I have never shot sabots before. So what I am looking for is advice on the best balance betwen the best performing sabot slug with the lowest recoil for my shoulder. 20 gauge, price is also a factor as these things are expensive. On a side note, when would the prices likey be dropping on these things from 2 dollars or more per shell?

I have a Rem 870 with rifled barrel and cantelever scopemount in 12ga.I never shot a 20ga. slug, but I heardthere are not to bad as far as recoil.I like the Federal Power shock sabots that cost $8.00 per box, but youmust find the brandthat shots the bestout of your rifle. If recoil is still a problemwith standard 20ga. sabots, you couldtry theRemington low recoil sabots.

Best bet is to try a few different loads to find what your gun shoots best. Might be the pricey stuff but if you want better performance someyims it costs a bit more. I've found brenke slugs work best in my slug guns but that's in 12ga. I have used Lightfield slugs in another shotgun and they worked great! If recoil is an issue maybe a shotgun isn't the best choice.

i have a mossberg 935 auto i just put a rifled barrel on it and shot it with hornaday sst's and brenekes if you look the brenekes can be shot out of rifled or smooth barrels they are about $2.50 to $3 dollars a box here. They shot better out of my gun than the sst's and alot less recoil, just something you could look at. at 50 yards i was shooting groups with all five holes touching
