Kimber .338 Fed
I'm looking at getting the 84M in .338 Fed and I just happen to be less than 5 miles from a Kimber dealer (last year I could have bought an 84M in .308 for $789 from this dealer), however I think the Kimber is too lightfor this caliberfor comfortable shooting. I hunt with guys who have muzzle breaks on their .300 mags but I like my hearing just fine. So, has anyone ever used an Edwards recoil reducer? Do they work as stated on their web-site? Easy to install or best left for a gunsmith?Oh yeah, any feedback on the.338 Fed? Thanks in advance.

Its a caliber I want to try but have not yet. I am Not a Kimber man but I looked at one in the New Ruger this year. As a caliber I really like the thought that went into it. This will be an excellent elk and moose cartridge out to 300 yard or a little more without the excess recoil of the 338 or 340 WM.

I've never owned a Kimber, any particular reason for not liking them? I have two Rugers (M77 in .270 wintang safety and MKII in .257 Roberts)but I'm not liking the recent feedback on Rugers (outside of the #1).

I have an 84M in .308 and it's been great. I'm mostly shooting 130gr. Corbon DPX Hunters for deer, and recoil is a non-issue. It's lightweight for sure... that's why it's my roving / tree stand sitting choice. In .338 Federal it might be more of an issue at the bench, but IMO in the field it should be fine. I almost grabbed a Sako 85 in .338 Federal last spring, but opted to go in a different direction instead. Therefore I don't know much about that offering.

I have a tikka t-3 in .338 federal. So far it didn't really like any of the loads that are available except the 185gr Barnes tsx. It absolutely loves these. I haven't had a chance to try the new fusion loads for .338 yet. Not really sure I will. As for recoil, I really can't complain. This thing doesn't kick nearly as bad as I expected it to. I hope that the round will be murder on some wild hogs and deer. I know it is a little much for these southern whitetails, but I really wanted something that would reliably take out the hogs incase I got into a charge situation. I plan to do some hog hunting with dogs. Anyway, I love the cartridge and wish I could reload so I could really get more bullet selection out of this round.

I have nothing special against them. However a hunting buddy has several which he paid quite a bit of money for. The won't shoot beside my 700 SPS rifles or my Savavge rifles. I don't see a need to lay out the big bucks to gain nothing or very little over rifles costing about half as much.
