You know I could write a check today for a $5000 rifle and it would be good, but I'd feel that I'd just paid a $4500 pretty tax and that sux. I'd rather spend it on ammo!

I think they don't make the Lx any more its called a Prestigue. The last one I bought 3 yrs ago was $1250 but the deals like that are gone. More in likely $1500-$1800. I bought my Luxus for $1300 guy needed money. I had a Synthetic I bought for $1200 and sold it a year later for $1400.
Everything for these is getting way out of control. But you can shoot from a .22 LR to a 416 Rem mag in the same gun.

You need to check current prices. Your deals were SMOKING! A Prestige retail for around $3K, a Luxus for around $4500, and a synthetic for over $2500. You are 100% correct that prices are getting way out of control. They are blaming ot the value of the dollar against the euro.

Well, I think most of us in this country would be better off to put our dollars towards purchasing some of our own land to hunt on, because VERY soon hunting in this country will be similar to Europe where only the rich can hunt. If you don't own your own land or can't afford the high cost of leases, you probably won't have a place to hunt in the not to distant future. I much rather have a place to hunt with a cheap old Savage rifle than a closet full of custom rifles that could never be fired at anything other than a paper target.
The reason the Krauts (and others in Europe) make hunting weapons of higher quality than Americqn mass-produced arms is because in Europe, ONLY THE WEALTHY can afford to hunt! The average Joe Blow hasn't a hope of ever being able to pay the costs involved in maintaining hunting grounds. Here, anyone can hunt because the game is owned by the government (people), not private individuals.

Publicly accessable hunting lands on which there are sufficient populations of game as to make bagging something not too impossible are rapidly disappearing.

"Hunters that are willing to walk more than 100 yards froma fire lane or logging roadare rapidly disappearing as well- think there's a correlation?"
You got that right. Those who do get a little ways off the road and kill a deer often give up dragging it and leave it lay.Several years ago in WV i found a niceten point thatsomeone gave up ona couple of days before.Snow had fallentwo nights before:The deer hadbeen field dressed and it had snowed onit.i just tagged it, dragged it out and checked it in.
