I was surprised at how much power these little bullets have... I was shooting them in my back yard at about 25 yards... I figured I put up a stack of cardboard up to stop them... I had 10 pieces taped together pretty tight... Shot 5 rounds and all 5 rounds went through... Then I put the cardboard in front of two sheets of drie wall... Went threw all that, then I pit a piece of 1/4" steal plate behind that... I would shot and I could hear the bullet smack the steal plate, pretty hard... I went down and the bullets were completely flattened out like a pancake... Some of them were in pieces... I didn't think a little 22 short would have that much powere[&:]They were shooting pretty good too... 5 shots in about as nickle size group at 25 yards... Not bad huh???

Really for squirrels, about the only reasonto shootlongs is for the extra range. I like the cci subsonic shorts. My 39A sounds like a pellet gun with those. Usually when the squirrels figure that out they are already skin't.

Longbeard,
It shoots real good. Sometimes I scope it and shoot off the bench in between barrel coolings. What I like most about the gun is the deal I got on it. I wanted one for a long time. I was in the local gun shop one afternoon, and I found this gun on the used rack. It looked as if someone had put it behind the seat of their pickup and forgot about it. The barrel had rust spots, the stock was so dirty the wood was a very dark color. The Marlin birds eye was missing out of the stock, and the dealer said it would not cycle and would jam. I bought it for $175.00. The barrel was still shiny even in that condition.
I got it home and found it's serial # made it a 1967 model. The same year I was born. I stripped it down and cleaned it up. I reblued all the steel, and refinished the stock. I found that the cartridge cut off piece was missing, which is whyit would jam, and ordered from brownells that and a bird eye for the stock. It was a fun project. It shoots and cycles longs, shorts and anything you want to shoot in it.
When I was done I took it to my friends back at the gun shop and they asked if I wanted my $175.00 back.
Here it is.

From: S.W. Pa.-- Heart in North Central Pa. mountains-
I have an old Winchester Model 69 that I shoot those CCI shorts in for whacking chipmunks around the house with. Nice and quiet, and the old gun loves them.
