do you think aftermarket choke tubes are worth the price or not?
i have a browning gold 12 ga thinking about buying a choke for it.

IMO they are way over sold.....get a full, modified and IC choke and quit fumbling over trivia.

Never in my life have I missed a target because of the choke!

Depends, some aftermarket chokes do pattern better, the only reason I have aftermarket chokes is for better patterns in my t t t turkey guns.

Of course the type of choke depends. I have 3 aftermarket chokes... a all remington: full, trky super full, and imp. cylinder.

If you try to shoot small game at 50 yard with a imp. cylinder, you will miss. If you try to shoot small game at 5 yards with a trky super full, hitting you game will be hard. It all depends on what I'm hunting and how far.

What chokes are you looking at buying? I have quite of few aftermarket chokes that will work in your Browning. I'll have to look around and see if I can find 'em, they aren't doing me much good around here. I just stick to the factory tubes.

If you are talking about turkey chokes, they are worth their weight..

As mentioned, for most upland game, full, modified and improved will give you enough difference in pattern to get the job done.

No one can tell you for sure they're not worth it. It will dpend on if you find the right one for your gun. I bought a .665 Madd Maxx for my Rem. Super Mag and there is no factory choke out there that can even remotely come close to the performance that Madd Maxx puts out on my Rem. Super Mag. I am talking about turkey chokes exclusively.

I grew up without the benefit of screw ins the poly choke was all there was so we loaded to do what we needed to . Those old full winchesters were all we shot . That said , For the pourpose of keeping a tiny pattern way out like for turkey I would say sure . If you have a gun that is shooting egg shaped or spotty patterns yes .In general hunting unless you're replacing a lose I wouldn't bother .
