Default .308 or .270?

I currently use a Browning A bolt .270and I am thinking about switching to a Ruger M77 .308but I have never had any experiece with a .308. Has anyone had experiece with both? Which if eitheris better for deer, probably for shots under 200 yards?

For shots under 200 yards they are both superb rounds to use on deer.

I don't think you would be able to tell a difference, both would work well. But, your getting rid of your A-bolt for a ruger???lol...

I wouldn't switch from a browning A bolt to a ruger if you payed me, regardless of caliber. (maybe a ruger #1)

That being said I would pick the .270 over the 308 to begin with.

both are great calibers, personaly I rather the 308 it seems to just drop deer like lighting.its also prob the best all-around caliber ever developed.I also seen it drop alot of moose with ease,as for ruger guns not a real big fan ,they are well built, but big and heavy.

Not knowing the details of your situation, I'm tempted to suggest that you keep the rifle but put any extra money into a good scope.

Either a .270 or a .308 will kill deer aplenty. (Remember: A hundred years ago, deer-hunting technology was a lot less advanced, yet deer died by the zillions.)

HAHAHA!! I agree with everyone else on the switching from a browning A bolt to a ruger??????? I actually bought aruger and took it back after shooting 2 boxes of shells through it trying to get it to hit a target consistantely! That ruger got traded for a A bolt, best decision Ihave ever made hands down!!!
As far as 270 over 308. i personally do not care for a 270 for my area, but i do have a buddy that wont use nothing but his 308. i guess its all personal preference!! Good Luck in whatever you choose! But stay smart dont do the wrong thing! JK
