Default caliber pronunciation (25-06)

Hi all. I am a new member. I have been a casual hunter/shooter for a while now but just recently started to get serious about it. I don't know anybody that owns a 25-06 or 7mm-08 and I was wondering how these calibers were typically pronounced, paticularly the 25-06. Is it like a thirty-aught-six, or is just a twenty-five-oh-six. Read alot about them just never heard anyone talk about them. Thanks,

Welcome to the board Camp_13 The 25-06 is pronounced that way. It's the same case as the 30-06 but necked down to 25 caliber. If you called it the ought6 I'm sure people would think you are talking about the 30-06.The 35 Whelan uses a 30-06 case also. It's expanded to .35 caliber. The 7mm 08 is a necked down 308 case to hold the .284 bullet.Join on in! You'll learn allot of this board.

So it is "twenty-five-oh-six"?

That 25 ot 6 reply threw me off a bit.

Thank you for the response.

I have been a heavy woods/brush deer hunter mostly, I have a Marlin 30-30 and a Ruger Deerfield 44 mag. Now I am out to get a longer range rifle also. Looking at a 270 a 25-06, or a 308. This year, I got a nice doe hunting the brush next to a large swamp but I would like to be able to reach farther out into the swamp if I have too. Plus It would be nice if I ever get to go "out-west".

Welcome my friend, you will learn a lot of good info from people like Ruger and others. If you want to get bigger in caliber you can go up to a .270 or a 30 ought 6. I have both and I do seem to favor the .270 for sentimental reasons as my Dad left it to me. It is 51 years old and I made sure I took a deer with it first this year in front of the 06.
