Default .500 pistol

Anyone seen this giant, I mean it is huge. I would love to have one, and probably will some day. The only reason I dont is because I cant find one for under $900. Has anyone ever shot this gun or own it? If so, I want to know what ever you can tell me about it, Range, accuracy,etc...

I shot one round from a 500 S&W that looked like it had about a 4" ported barrel. The muzzle didn't rise very far thanks to the ports, but my hand sure felt it.[8D]

My local Gander Mtn. had several used ones in their case. None of them looked like they had been fired much.

That should tell you something.

Its just another 2500 HD, or another 700 4x4. Its way way way more than you need, and most folks buy them just to have the biggest most expensive toy.

I have the 460Smith version and its about all I want to handle. But its a great long range pistol round. The 500 is just getting uncomforable to me. I have shot a few and its a handful. My 460 kicks less than my 44mag, but about 3 times heavier.

And you can shoot 45 LC or 454s out of it too....that in my mind is a major leg up for the 460 over the 500. I have shot the .460 and while its not exactly comfortable...you do have other options for practice with it.

I, personally would much rather get a .454 Cascull, plenty of power, not extravagant, great bear gun,but some people who pistol hunt like the .460 for moose and elk,NEF makes the Handi-Rifle in .500 S&W, that doesn't sound too bad.

If you think you need more than what a 454 will offer buy a rifle. These are more "bragging rights" or "attention getter" guns than anything.

IMO, the 44 Mag is about all the handgun needed for the lower 48 states hunting. Where legal the 45 LC and 41 are plenty as well.
