Sierra, get the 300WSM, you will not be sorry. In fact the 300 WSM is outselling the 300WM from talking to gun buyers and sellers. As far as having chambering problems, I've never had this happen to my 300wsm model 70. I have 7 or 8 friends that hunt with the 300wsm and they all praise it's accuracy, performance and shorter action. This cartridge is here to stay. My 300WSM kicks the same as my 30-06 with better performance.

The reason that the .300 WSM is outselling the .300 Win. Mag., is that everyone needs a new toy, so they get a .300 WSM, since it's the new thing, whereas the .300 Win. Mag. has been around for awhile.

The 300wsm has almost exactly the same figures as 300 win mag on paper when factory loads are compared. I honestly don't think you would be happy with 300rum because it is kinda like a specialist's cartridge(long range). It is my opinion that about 1/2 of people shooting magnums are stooting more gun than actually needed. By that I mean how many shots are made that couldn't have been made with a "standard" cartridge? Also,it is my opinion that a lot of times instead of using a new "supermagnum" some of us(not very many I hope),need to put the hunt back in hunting instead of simply blasting away at great distance. Before yall all jump on me,I realize there are a few times this is needed.

LOL, funny one, 375.
It may be hard to believe, but the biggest crap I ever heard that had to do with guns was spoken by people who worked at gun stores.
There was one guy who was selling my dad a scope, and he said "Well, yousee, Bushnell, is actually made by Bosh-noll." What an idiot.
Another guy said that Shooter's Edge products are made by Bushnell, which is false, he was just beinga salesman.
I have a couple more.

I can't take it anymore, I must spill my beans!
The same goofball that said that Bushnell is made by "Bosh-noll" said he hunted with a .300 Win. Mag., and we asked him what bullets he uses, and he says that a buddy of his who works for the FBI handloads these amazing rounds that he hunts with, they were some sort of hybrid ballistic tip that isn't available on the market.
When my dad was choosing ammo for his new 7mm Rem Mag, I told him to get 150-grain Swift Siccoro, or Nosler Partition, because Itold dad hewould want an exithole to make thetracking easier, but the salesman comes and says "Nah, you don't need an exit hole, just turn all the organs to jelly, and watch the deer drop!" He and I were sorta' arguing, and my dad bought his advice, and then the guy was saying "Just get 140-grain, forget 150.", but I convinced my dad to get 150-grain, since that's what I use in my .308.
I asked the guy if he'd ever used regular bullets, like the Nosler Partition on elk, and he said "Only on paper, it's just normal, but these handloads I've got, they........"
Also, when my dad was deciding what brand of rifle he should get, he was considering Remington, or a rifle he really liked that was a Browning.
The salesman was talking "You know what, I have a Browning A-Bolt, and I love it, but those Remingtons, I have seen tons of them, that were bought with people who were looking forward to using them, and they'd just come back here, they just weren't shooters! But I NEVER had that happen with a Browning."
I said, "That happens with Ruger, Tikka, Savage, you name it, INCLUDING Browning."
And he just looks at me like I'm just a stupid kid.
This was at Gander Mtn., it's a great store, I'd love to go back there again, but that guy was just arrogant, must be from breathing all that gunsolvent fumes.
