Go with the 270. My son shoots the recoil loads. Not a thing wrong with them. They group nice, with plenty of knock down power.

Managed recoil ammo is one option, but a rifle chambered in a milder recoiling cartridge to begin with might be better. The 260 Rem and 7mm-08 Rem are both excellent cartridges with very little recoil and great ballistics.
Ditto, a .243 will put managed recoil ammo to shame.

As a follow up, I finally got back to the range with the Hornady 130gr SP. After firing 2 fouling shots, I put 3 shots in an inch, all about 2" left at 100 yards. Fired another 3 shots all within 1", 1" high, windage perfect. Fired a 5 shot group of 1.19", 1" high. I then fired three managed recoil rounds, 1.5" group, windage was perfect, 3" low. My son will hunt with the Hornadys. I am beginning to like these Rem 700's. I see more of them in my future.

LOL They are addictive.... Im up to 6 now. I have 2 7-08's so I can see one of them becoming a 338 or a 260ai.
