I would take the 06 for the big Hogs.

I wouldn't feel undergunned with a 270 on a big hog. You can push a 160 grain bullet at 2800 fpsfrom a 270 which has better sectional density than anything out of a 30-06 under 200 grains.

Dude your just starting a fire then getting pissy when it gets hot in the kitchen. You knew it has been debated to death sooooooo..... I say pick one because that's the answer. You asked. I went to the store looking for a rifle I found one I liked in 30-06I said "do you have it in .270?" the guy said "Nope!" I said "O.k. I'll take this one." Like I said how many spirits can dance on aneedle head? While were at it let's compare our left and right thumbs. We're not being rude we're giving our opinion based on our experiences. My opinion is:

IT DOESN'T MATTER!
THEY WILL BOTH DO THE SAME JOB!
PICK ONE!
I sat and sat and sat trying to answer the same question before I realized the answer. Hey, if Calibers of the World considers both calibers equil enough to not make that much of a difference why should we here?

the 06 is a better choice in my eyes, it gives you ten times the bullet options that the 270 does, and that includes bigger bullets which means better knock down power. the 270 has very little advantage over the 06 in speed /flat trajectory if you load the 06 w/ similar weight bullets. the 270 should do just fine also.

There is no way on gods green earth that the 270 would be less than sufficient for any size hogs. Or anything else in NA with the possible exception of grizzly and Polar bears and they too have been taken with the 270. You would be well armed with either the 270 or 30-06. No critter would ever know the difference.
agreed: Before I bought my Rem 700 sps .270 i had a difficult choices to on caliber. I even went as far as contacting remington, winchester and federal and one other munition manufacturer. They all said that the .270 was effective against anything in the northeast us including black and brown bear (with the heavier grain at closer ranges of course) Ive never hunted hogs before but i would assume anything that can down a bear will be able to down a hog. But what do i know?
i chose the 270 because it has a flatter trajectory than the 30.06 and its alittle cheaper to stock up on

Its really a tight comparisoin. One might be better than the other on Monday, but show up late for work Tuesday.

Usually it depends on the nut located just behind the stock.

IMHO ifI wouldhunt it with a 300 Win mag then I would be just as happyhunting it with a .270, 30-06, .308, 7mm mag, 7mm-08, .280, etc... Only ifI were to persue dangerous game like brown and polar bears and bison would I feel under gunned with either of the two. And thenI would step up to a .338 win mag or larger.

Basically what one can do so can the other. The dead animal will never know the differance of .038 inches of bullet diameter between the two.

And you don't need a bullet heavier than 180 grains in any 30 caliber cartridge.

And there is no such thing a "knock down power". Why that phrase continues to be used is beyone me.
