just wondering which one you would pick for an all around varmint and deer gun they are close on ballistics but it looks like the 270 has a little better ballistics just wondering your opinion

I own both calibers. i have taken more with my 270 only because i have owned it longer. i shot a good buck with my 25 -06 this year and was very impressed! deer never knew what hit him. never took another step. though he wasnt dead when i got to him he was not going anywhere by any means!
i am equally happy with both at this time!

As otis said, if a deer is the biggest animal that you're going to shoot, I'd go with the .25-06. If not . . . That being said, a lot of hunters in Sweeden and Finland shoot moose with a 6.5x55mm, and that round is comparable to a .260 Remington!

I've owned both, and currently deer hunt with a 270. They are both plenty for deer...but the 25-06 is nicer to shoot at the varmints. Lighter bullets are easily available, and come in more varmint friendly styles.
If you're going to reload, just go with whichever floats your boat.

If varmints are on the menu, the .25-06 gets the nod. I love the .270 Win (maybe the best medium game cartridge ever developed) too, and would prefer it for deer or larger game. But the .25-06 will whack deer with the best of 'em!
