Choices....
The new rifle bug has bitten me and in the market for a new one. Have been doing some reading on the .270 wsm and like what I've been seeing. The local gun dealer is pushing the 7mm-08 instead and to be honest I don't know a lot about that caliber. I'm wanting something to deer hunt with but also be able to take elk hunting in a pinch and I don't know if the 7mm-08 will do. I already own a .300 wm, 243, 257 roberts and .35 rem, and looking for something between the 243 and 300. The 300 has a brake that punishes your ears, and everyone elses, if not protected and not fun to do a lot of shooting with. So...what do you think of the .270 wsm in a ss Tekka, Vangard, Browning, Howe (sp), or Savage. Opinions please.

If you feel a bit uncomfortable shooting the 300 WinMag, then by all means I think you should head out the door and get the 270 WSM. I don't personally own one, but I do own the 7-08 and love it for deer. I agree that a little more power may be needed for a long elk shot, and the 270 WSM should do nicely. After all, a man can't have too many guns.
