Remember the movie "Quigley Down Under"? That Sharps he was shooting was a 45-110. It was basically a 45-70 magnum. The case length is longer and it came loaded with 110 grains of black powder. The rifles that shoot it are going to be expensive because the only ones I know being made today are the Shiloh Sharps up in Montana. Thats about all I can remember off the top of my head. Oh, and on your stock issue for the FN, the company I was talking about is the only one I know of and have had dealings with other than Boyds.

If you gotta have a Sharps, then nothing else will do. But if you just want an accurate big bore single shot, then get a Ruger No. 1 in .45-70 - with proper loads it will do anything the .45-110 will do and more.

If you really want one, buy a 45/70 or a 45/90 reproduction like what you see in Cabela's or imported by Navy Arms and have it rechambered for the 110. A guy I know does it for $75.
It takes a lot of re-learning to load good Black Powder loads but it is worth it.
Be prepared for some serious re-coil. These guns are thumpers.

Back when they were still loading them with black powder didnt they get the names for the round by the caliber then the amount of powder? like 45-110, 45 caliber bullet with 110 grains of blackpowder? There were like a ton of them back then. I think everyone would love to have a shiloh sharps rifle, one of the most accurate guns made.
