RE: best factory ammo for a 44mag??
I didn't ask the original question, but if anyone has suggestions on factory or handloads for a 44 mag rifle, I'd be interested.
The factory stuff I've used so far hasn't impressed me at all.

it will be shot from my ruger super black hawk with a 10 1/2" barrel ..i really do not think 310gr super hard cast is going to be the the best ammo on deer.Great ammo but on deer i would use jhp's jsp's ex.

Have you tried Winchester's Supreme Partition Gold's 250 gr. Both my son's shoot them in their Ruger Deerfield's and like them just fine. gg.

Hey .300wbymag, why don't you like hard cast bullets? I don't like an expanding bullet when shooting large bore guns like the .44mag, .454, or .45-70. The outside diameter of the bullet is already almost .5". I have nothing against hollow points and would certainly choose them over FMJ or hard cast in some of the subsonic or small diameter calibers (high powered rifles). Do you see flaws in my theory? The .44 mag is a superb round; I don't think anyone will ever say it is marginal for deer. You can load it with pretty much anything and it's going to topple the critter.
