What kind of competition are you talking about? No one here will be able to answer your question correctly. Your best bet is to find your local gunclub an see what kind of shooting goes on there, those guys will tell you what you will need to get.

Gotta know what aspect of competitive shooting. Also cheap to shoot isn't really a deciding factor. If you're gonna shoot competitively, you'll needing to reload to tweak the best loads. Also, the gun and optics won't likely be on the cheap side either. It's a sport where money can play a part if you're wanting to really compete.

200 yards? That's simple. Here's what all the guys in the know are using. It is also used by special secret forces all over the world to covertly eliminate high intrest targets.

You need to find out what kind of shooting your going to be doing and dont expect it to be cheap for competitions. I have a .204 Ruger that shoots consitant .5 in groups at 100 yards (with factory ammo)and i barely get top 10 in the tournaments at the gun range i go to. That gun with scope and everything done to it was right around $3500. Then i got a long range rifle in .338 Laupua Mag and just dont have time to reload for it so i dont know how well i could shoot.

Uncle Matt....Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet rifle ya have there, I notice the recoil pad on it,what caliber is that thing? It looks like it might kick a bit due to being synthetic and a light contour barrel.
Retaks....I just got a Sako TRG in 338 Lapua and look forward to shooting it. What rifle is your Lapua in?

Uncle Matt, I too noticed the recoil pad.. have you considered getting the barrel ported or an aftermarket BOSS system installed to help tame that recoil?
Scope Eye, Its interesting you ask about which cailber is best for competition after an earlierpost where youask for barrel break in advice on your "New Savage" What caliber did you buy?
I didnt know that Savage made air rifles
