I would not buya BSA scope to replace the scope that will come with the Savage package. It simply will not be an upgrade and quite possibly youwill be worse off. There is nothing wrong with trying to save money but remember you usually get what you pay for. Maybe you should look for a good used scope such as Leupold, Burris, or Nikon. These scopes will still carry their warranty and will serve you much better. Look at ebay andhunting websites with classifieds(such as this site)and I bet you can find a good deal.

Elite 3200 area & up would be my suggestion. The 3200 is agood scope for the price and has proven to be reliable in my usage.

The Nikon Monarch would be a step up and at the prices being flashed on the forums pretty hard to argue with this suggestion.

You could also look at the Nikon Prostaff if a more inexpensive, yet durable scope without the extras is what you want. I got one in 2x7 for $129 and it has a full lifetime warranty.
Bushnells and Burris' are good options as well.

You have to listen too what everyone is telling you !! I totally agree. the 50mm is to big for what your doing and heavy mayI add. Go with the 40mm and look at the nikon monarch for 218.00. I bought 1 in early jan. and it is great. The best money i have spent... And i was looking in the 500, 600 dollar range for a scope. I'm glad I got this and the savings was just a steal.

.02 cents

The scope that came with my Savage package gun was a Simmons 8 point 3x9x40. I saw this scope advertised in several sale papers last year for $29.99. Not much quality there I don't think. If you have $150 for a scope now, I would look at the Prostaff mentioned earlier or a good used scope. You could also save up a few more months and go with a Nikon Buckmaster, Bushnell Elite 3200 or a Burris FFII.
