No kiddin!

ShatoDavis: Please do not be too upset with me. I have only owned 1-264 Win Mag. It was the Remington classic, and I never shot the rifle. I did not feel qualified to speak of the caliber. I did however order a custom 6.5 X 284 barrel for my Encore. I will be using this for a long range(350-550 yards) ground hog rifle this year. I will hopefully be shooting this one alot.

I started this post to discuss caliber's and not cartridges. But it seems everyone wants to revert back to cartridges. Oh well-so be it. Tom.

As far as the bigger is better deal :

I shot a 185lb buck at about 75 yards with a .6mm Rem and dropped him dead in a field....few years ago!! I took a guy hunting and put him in the same stand 2 days later and he killed a 130 lb buck at the same apprx. range with a .300 mag that ran 200 yards or more !!

You can argue about all you want about what is better or not .........but I shot mine right in the shoulder and he shot his back in the liver !! You could not prove to me that the .300 was better at killing that day !!

By conincidence .........same field this year a guy shot a spike that weighed 110 lbs with a 30-06 180 grain bullet that went right through the rib cage and made a small entry and exit............deer ran 100 yards or so before going down and very little blood to trail !!

So I guess I could argue that the .6mm is a better killer !!

But I think it's the shoulder shot that made the difference !!

Well....If you think the 30-30 is the best cartridge out there, why didn't you just say so....


We all know the .243 is better.........

hey that 6.5-284 is much more than a ground hog weapon. The SD of 130 and 140 gr. 6.5 bullets is tremendous. I own 6.5-284 and let me tell you, a 140 at 2800 fps will flat out do some damage.

Hay Z. Were you asleep. Why didn't you shoot that coyote in the picture, or did you? Looks like fun, how far is it to that clump of trees on the high ridge. Probably too far for a 243, but I bet a thirty caliber could get there. Boy I am gonna get it for that one.Tom.

I was waiting for some axis to come out of the bottom of this valley, never did see one.My friend did get one at the other end of the ranch though.
I did some stalking but kept getting busted, did have a chance on an axis buck but he as still in velevet, still growing, passed on him.
Two axis does were shot here yesterday, both were pregnant, sad, but theres no way to tell with axis, they breed like goats, not once a year. Got a pic of the baby but doubt anyone wants to see it.
