Isn't the Katahdin barrel one of those spanish barrels?

I don't know about that. What they are referring to as the Katahdin barrel is a short "carbine" style barrel. They are 18 to 20 inches and come in calibers like 45/70, 460 S&W, 450 and 444 Marlin.
Intended for "brush guns".

I had a standard 45/70 24" blued barrel that I had "french grayed" and cut down to 18" and installed a williams peep. Recoil with heavy loads and the light weight synthetic stock was pretty brutal, but not unmanagable. The encore stock isn't the best design to handle recoil. It was a really handly little package, the overall length is VERY short, almost like a long barred handgun. My dad liked it so muchthat he has permanentlyborrowed it.

So how does it shoot compared to the 24" barrel?

Not really any loss of accuracy, only lost a few hundred fps over 24" barrel.

I have one in 450 Marin and it's a lot of fun. It's my primary pig gun. Very light and quick handling. It will also put a stomping on a pig. Farthest shot I have made with it is about 80 yards with open sights and it rolled a 200# sow.
