It’s pretty straight forward for me: given the horsepower of a 270win - a Highpower cartridge pushing a 120-140grn bullet over 50-60grn of powder, I know the bullet will do what’s needed at ranges farther than I am capable of reliably putting it where I trust it to do so.

I giggled pretty hard last week when I read that claim that those rounds would evaporate…

Nice shooting Ron. Good stuff, and a good testament to the "old" .270 and what it's capable of in the hands of a skilled shooter.

I'm not sure what the max range is but I know i dropped a 4x4 mulie buck where he stood at a ranged 437 yds. So 500 or 600 yards should be still be ok. But YOU got to practice. Just because your rifle is capable doesn't mean you are!

Having a good very solid rest and shooting 130 gr Nosler BT over 55 gr of IMR4350, that mulie never knew what hit him.
Would I recommend anyone taking that shot. Absoultely not. But I was practicing all summer at 300 and 400 yds and had a Burris scope with the ballistic plex andI was pretty confidentI could make the shot under the conditions.

The range is supposed to stretch each time the story is told.

That should be up to 7 or 800 yards by now!

You of all people should know that I don't stretch the truth! I will say that I am proud of that shot. Not so much the shot itself but the effort that went into the stalk (about 5 hours) and the precarious position both the guide and myself were in for me to take the shot. I was literally hanging onto a knife edge rock outcropping with one hand laying on a 45+ degree slope using the guide's jacket as a rest. Then after the shot it took another 2 hours to circle around and get to him. A memory I will never forget. And that is what hunting is all about - the memories.
