i just bought a Browning BAR .30-06 for deer hunting, but i have also heard that someone makes a light grain, like 55 grain bullet for a .30-06and its got some kind of sabot, does anyone know who makes these

i have heard of these for a 30-30 so i am sure that they are made for 30-06 as well not sure who makes it thoughi would just find the lightest fmj that your gun shoots well and use that out of a 30-06 it should level a coyote with minimal pelt damage

i think you're talking about the Remington Accelerators. Most guys get horrible accuracy from what I've heard. I agree with the FMJ. Just be responsible with you shots 'cause they can and do richotet(SP?)

Remington Accelorators
55 grain. I believe around 4000 fps on the label. I definately wouldn't say accuracy is a problem, you're not going to shoot sub-moa, but will be shoot well enough for larger varmints. I shot a box from the bench and was 1.5-2" groups at 100 yards, but I have .223 for varmints.

Cost is usually the limiting factor. In my area, Des Moines, IA the Accelorators cost about $25/box of 20. You can get a 150grain or 125 grain Federal soft pointfor around $10/box 20, or less.

If you handload, load upa 110 grain HP over some H4895 or Varget for your .30-06. Consultyour loading manual for exact recipes. You'll almost certainly get better accuracy than those Accelerators. I do the same exceptwith a 100 grain Hornady HP in my 7x57 Mauser. Just don't expect to save the pelts if that's what you're after. And if you're popping prairie rats or the like, it's spectacular.

I tried some of those accelerators in my 30-30. After about 50 yards, they became wildly inaccurate. If the barn was very far away, I couldn't hit the side of it from the inside.

If you are not saving the pelts, just use your normal hunting loads. Even if you are saving pelts, they may be your best bet. If you can hit the vitals without hitting some of the bigger bones, the coyote may be thin enough the bullet won't expand much as it goes through.
