No Doubt that it would do the job you want done. I had a client that used one for Mule deer every year that he booked. He sure didn't like to shoot it unless he had to. Its more than a match for any plains game or anything running around Alaska.

I've had two 340 Wby's... One in a Wby. Mark 5, and the other in a 700 Rem. BDL... I just hated the recoil, the muzzle blast, and the fact that you have to have that long bbl. to use all of that powder... (brakes just make them even longer) I hated the price of ammo, and the price of reloading it to practice enough to take advantage of it's long range powder....
Keep in mind you pretty much need to use premium bullets in it because of the velocity....
The Wby. bolt stop failedwhile i was in the bush moose huntingand i had enough and got rid of it... For the above reasons i turned the 340 bbl off the 700 and made something else out of it.
