Was cleaning a varmint rifle and a few shotguns today and just wanted to share. I purchased this gun cleaning station/vise several months ago. It's made by a company called Hy Score and works really well. It's totally adjustable and has set screws that hold the butt and a velcro strap that you can cinch around the action to where the gun will not move even when using tight fitting patches or brushes.Everything is padded to protect the finish .If I remember it was$65and worth it.What do you use to hold your rifles when cleaning?

i unfortunately dont have any of them fancy devices so i just hold the gun in one hand and the cleaning rod in the other, hopefull i dont mess anything up and have yet to, but thats how my daddys dad showed him and how he showed me, so i guess it cant be to bad, guns still work after years of use, and they look pretty good, wouldnt mind gettin one of them devices though,

Folding camp stool, gun cleaning kit box on the floor, empty coke case cardboard to catch the dirty patches, and the gun across my lap. Iuse a boreguide and one piece rod most of the time. An Otis system the rest of the time.

That is a neat looking setup though.

I can't help thinking that it's a Rube Goldberg device.

That set-up looks very stable and certainly frees up your hands to do a careful job of aligning rod with bore, thereby protecting the muzzle.
I use a Tipton gun vise. Not the real expensive one called the "Deluxe" but just the standard one. I think I paid about $40 for it several years ago from Midway, but I now see them at Jerry's Spots (wholesale) for around $35. The deluxe one is going for closer to $80.
