looking for a 30-06 bullet

RE: looking for a 30-06 bullet
shepdog, typically a flat based bullet will lead to better penetration as a result of more weight retention than a comparable BT design. Exceptions to this rule ie:barnes x and tsx all copper where both boast in excess of 90% weight retention. On deer it rarily matters, unless real close at high MV or hitting square on the shoulder bone, this is where a tougher bullet will work better with less meat damage.
BTW my favorite deer bullet is still the NBT, though I expect thatI may have to make 200 plus yard shots on any given day i hunt deer with a CF.I have taken deer with it as close as 30 yards and never lost one but it does make a bigger hole when it strikes at High MV andpenetration is reduced when it meets heavy bone b/c of therapid expansion design.

I can't speak to the ballistics of any bullet, but nothing has walked away from my 165 gr Federal Premium Sierra Boat Tails in the past15 years. I just bought a new .06 and the Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear Claws shoot the best out of this gun.
I hunt whitetail usually at less then 100 yards.

If your hunting whitetails,200 yards and under,165gr.Sierra boattails are your best bet.....
This is my personal opinion but Sierras are the most accurate bullet on the market
You don't need to spend that extra expense on bonded bullets that give you better down range terminal ballistics and performance...
Cause from the muzzle out to 350yrdsthese bullets will do just fine on deer...

Ifall you're after are whitetails, and your shots are going to be less than 300 yards, it makes no sense to spend extra money on premium ammo. Just get a box of 150 Gr. Winchester Power Points, or Remington Express Core Lokt's. You'll save a few dollars that you can spend at the shooting range honing your marksmanship skills. You don't really need the expensive stuff until you take a couple steps up in the size of game you're after.
