just depending on what you want the bullet to do. if you want to be able to get virtually all the meat use a bonded bullet such as winchesters accubond or remingtons scirocco bonded bullets. which a soft pointed bullet would also do the same such as core-lokts and super x. if you want a bullet for deer instant stopping power then i would shoot a nosler ballistic tip. these will sometimes mess up a shoulder of meat but when they hit the deer goes down. you can get em in winchester, remington, federal, a lot of factory loads. with these if you never want the possibility of losing that buck of a lifetime, the ballistic tip is what you need. ive saw deer get shot in the butt with one before and it fell to the grouund dead.

I like the Factory Federal BLUE BOX 150 grain ammo. They are loaded with Speer GS bullets. They do a good job without excess meat damage.

If your looking for hand loads try the Hornady 150gr Interbonds or 165gr SST. I also shoot 150gr barnes triple X.

Not sure on factory loads as I don't use them.

Take your pick 150-180 will work fine with 06 & whitetails. Being you don't expect to shoot further than 200 yards I'd probably lean to the 165-180 side of things, as you really don't need to worry about longer range shots and trajectory gains of 150 gr bullet. I'd also personally pick a flat based bullet vs a boattail, sono need for a polymer tip or bonded either unless you just want to try one. Something like a hornady interlock sp, nosler partion.etc in 165 or 180 would be about perfect.

Good luck

Haven't used my 06' yet, but i had good results with Federal Vital- Shok year before last. I was using the 130gr Gamekings in my 270. It slammed all three, with complete pass through and massive wound channels. The first was at 6yds and the last was over 150. So they work well close-up and atlonger ranges.

I shoot a Remington 165 boattail accutip. I have never had a deer go farther then 20 yards after hitting it. They seem to be where I 'm aiming from 250 yards on in the 25 yards. Good luck and have agreat hunt

What's the big difference between the flat based bullets and the boat-tails, I know the boattail's better for longer shots, but what about performance on game?
