I have a 222 and have a 3-10 scope mounted on it. Although I haven’t shot this rifle yet, for some reason I don’t think this is adequate for varmint so I’m looking 4.5-14 scope instead. Just something to think about. Good luck in your choice...

jsb57, a 3x9 would probably do you fine if you are anticipating most shots 150 yards or so, with an occasional longer shot. A 4x12 would be better if you end up getting longer shots more consistently.

I am with the crowd that agrees that with 150 yard ranges you dont need that much scope, especially with coyote size targets. I just recently put together a Remington LVSF in 223 Rem with a Leupold fixed 12X AO. This is a sweet combination and use it mostly as a truck gun. There are lots of scopes out there that will work for you in your situation. I wanted something simple and like you the shots are under 200 yards so I picked the straight 12X.
Rem 40X /Leupold 8.5x25 compared with the small package LVSF/Leupold 12X
