RE: which scope for a 223
I have a 222 and have a 3-10 scope mounted on it. Although I haven’t shot this rifle yet, for some reason I don’t think this is adequate for varmint so I’m looking 4.5-14 scope instead. Just something to think about. Good luck in your choice...

Tasco 6-24X42 for $75.00. Make sure you get a good rest and practice shots with that rest.

jsb57, a 3x9 would probably do you fine if you are anticipating most shots 150 yards or so, with an occasional longer shot. A 4x12 would be better if you end up getting longer shots more consistently.

RE: which scope for a 223
My .223 wears a 6x18 40mm,it did have a 2.5-10 weaver.Shots out to 150-200 yds you realy don't need much more than a 3-9 or 2.5-10.
Good luck BBJ |
RE: which scope for a 223
I am with the crowd that agrees that with 150 yard ranges you dont need that much scope, especially with coyote size targets. I just recently put together a Remington LVSF in 223 Rem with a Leupold fixed 12X AO. This is a sweet combination and use it mostly as a truck gun. There are lots of scopes out there that will work for you in your situation. I wanted something simple and like you the shots are under 200 yards so I picked the straight 12X.
Rem 40X /Leupold 8.5x25 compared with the small package LVSF/Leupold 12X ![]() |
