Mag Man why on one hand are we weak minded people for buying a .270wsm, then after 200fps it is ok ??? one way or the other brother not riding the fence. This is a good round and has alot of potential. I have killed two deer with mine and it preformed very well.I used 150 grain soft points from winchester. I am getting my dies to load them in this week so I will post the results then.

Its an even better deal if you don't reload. I mean that factory WSM loads are 150-200 fps over factory 270 Win loads. In my reloading I can gain some with the 270 Win. over factory loads. You will have a tougher time trying to gain any velocity over factory loaded WSM cartridges.

Most of the factory loaded ammo that I have chronograghed read about 3275 for 130 grainers and right at 3200 for 150 grainers. My most accurate hand load so far has been the 130 grain Sierra Pro-Hunters which grouped half inch but clocked at 3050 fps which I can also reach with the 270 Win. HOWEVER, the WSM is idling at 3050 and the Win version is really straining.

I love them both and as a deer and elk cartridge, I am confident with a good bullet in either.

There are no pros to any of the short mags, they are simply for weak minded people who have fallen victim to this massive scam by Winchester and who obviously have no ballistic knowledge to begin with. Please go with the long action 270 you will save a lot of money and time trying to find ammo.
Listen Magnum Wiener...before you pass judgement on anyone here, you need to get YOUR FACTS straight!!!!...what's it to you what I or anyone else shoot?..worry about yourself punk!!!!

I think if you've followed Magnum Man's posts in the past, you would realize he said that "tongue-in-cheek."

I have a stable of many....I love my rifles!!! I have a 300wsm and a 270wsm. I have used the 270wsm for about five years now and it has become my "go to" rifle. It has worked quite nicley on whitetail, muledeer, and pronghorn. Longest shot was 320 yards in 05 to take a pronghorn. It is a fine operating rifle in the winchester model 70 featherweight configuration and seems to like most everything I feed it. I have seen ammo in nearly every Walmart I have I been in. Besides I have never had to buy any ammo when out in the field. Just go prepared.

Buy what makes you happy. There are many fine cartridges that will get it done for you.

RE: 270 WSM

I was not speaking to you about the 300 RUM I was just saying that if bigger is always better then where does that line of thinking end. I have said that I used the 300 Weatherby and 300 Win Mag both for deer. Having done so, I know that they are WAY more gun than I NEED FOR DEER. I have also said that the 300 Win Mag is a good all around rifle if you don't mind the recoil. The 270 WSM falls into a big group of rifles that are very good for deer hunting. If I had a favorite over many years for deer, it would be the 6.5 x55 Mauser.

I also have a 30-06 AI built on a Mauser action and with the right loads, it will equal both of 300 Win Mags that I had. The 30-06 AI will offer a 100-300 fps gain over the standard 30-06. Mine has a 26 inch barrel. I have had several AI versions in other calibers, some had good velocity gains after the conversion and some gained nothing at all. Its a rifle by rifle propisition. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Garminator, I suggest you strongly consider what you have posted, because if you really feel that way, then I believe you are just some immature little teenager whos mad 'cause someone jumped his beloved deer rifle, and you look like more of a fool thenI could have ever hoped to. And lighten up, I could care less what you shoot, I only said that to get your kinda response and maybe a couple of dirty PM's.

It seems that you are the immature oneby posting things to try to fire people up, this site was not intended to fire people up and stir up arguments, people post questions and comments and others give THEIR opinions on how to answer someone, no need to call people weak minded, IMHO

I know the orignal MM might have problems, but I honestly love the 270 WSM, it rivals the .270 Weatherby ballistically and it is in a short action, also ammo isn't that hard to find either, a great cartridge really.
