The reason for this is that these rifles are free-bored, to generate the greater pressure, which generates the higher velocity.
Freebore does not allow you to operate at greater pressures. It allowsyou to obtain more velocitywhiledeveloping the same pressure. In many cases, although not always, itcan also bea determent to accuracy.

The jump to the lands is why I believe the large for caliber bullets shoot better(less jump). I have experienced this in a half dozen different Weatherby's that I own or have owned. As far as the pressure is concerned I am puzzled by the comment of greater velocity without greater pressure. First I was under the impression that Weatherby caliber's operate under greater pressure to achieve the higher velocity. Second I have been under the impression that the freebore causes higher pressure? I am not questioning the preceding poster, only that I have had Weatherby representatives at the shot show say the exact same things that I said. The preceding poster could be correct, but I do not see how you could get greater velocity without more pressure? Tom.

The greater jump to the lands with freeboreactually results in a lower chamber pressure. Therefore if you increase the powder charge until the chamber pressure is the same, you can acheive a bit more velocity.Weatherby cartridges are listed by SAAMI and as you can see at the links provided, the weatherbychamber pressures are no higher than for the 270win or for the 8mmremmag,or several other cartridges.

First, one has to understand average pressure, and peak pressure. Think of it as a pressure curve with pressure on the y-axis, and barrel length on x. The limit for pressure is the action/barrel combo. Usally set by SAAMI. You can smooth out the pressure curve by letting the bullet get a running go so peak pressure is not so high. Freebore can come with a price of accuracy however. Think of trying to break down a door by pressing statically and then getting a running go.

I'd say it worth closer to $2,000.00. I just sold my Mark V Deluxe in .300 wby mag. I sold it for more than what I paid for it. I replaced it witha Mark V Accumark in .300 wby mag. I like the synthetic forhunting as I don't have to worry about babing the stock anymore. My first one was very accurate and this new one looks to be just as good if not slightly better. If you or your buddy don't reloadthe .300 wby mag is tough to beat. I keep my brass and sell it as I don't reload.

According to "2005 Standard Catalog of Firearms" The Weatherby Mark V Accumark Left-Handed in Very Good condition is $950.00. I would think the scope is worth around $900.00. Good luck.
