Slug barrel or muzzleloader???
I am considering buying a rifled slug barrel for my Remington 870 Super Magnum. I know I could only shoot 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells in the gun when the slug barrel is on . Does the 3 inch give that much more range than the 2 3/4? What range could I expect with it? What brand barrel and scope have you had good results with? Also I have a Remington 700 muzzleloader that I fell very comfortable with out to 100 yards , and was thinking I could just hunt with it during shotgun season. I have not hunted in shotgun season and I plan to in the future. Thank You!!

Hey fellow Buckeye...
I am not a shotgun fan...however, they are better than they have been in the past, and with the proper setup, they are dead-on at 100yds. In the proper hands, they are good a bit further.
That said...I don't see much advantage to a slug gun over a good muzzleloader. Your 700 will outshoot a slug-gun at 100yds. Plus knowing you only have one shot will force you to make a killing shot the first time.
I would save the $$$ from the barrel and go with the Remington.

Have to agree with Pro-line.
If you checked the ballistics, muzzle velocities, etc. - there is very little difference between a slug gun and a .50cal muzzleloader. Except that I think the 'Loader will probably be more accurate than 90% of the slug guns and carry at least as far.
Plus I just LOVE that cloud of smoke after you hear the KaBoom!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!

RE: Slug barrel or muzzleloader???
Can you use a muzzleloader in shotgun season? If so I would use the muzzy in a heartbeat. The shotgun may have a heavier projectile but the accuracy of the new muzzy's is awesome. My Traditions does 1&1/4" groups at 100 yards easy. I don't think I could get that with any shotgun but I'm not sure and I don't have a reason to find out.(until I get a scope on my own shotgun that is plus a rifled choke tube)
