Before you buy a vxIII 3.5x10 at least compare it with the 3x9 ziess conquest.Compare them at dusk and have a sales person accompany you outside the store to compare them outside in natural light.Most people actually find the conquest to be brighter than the vxIII and the conquest has a constant 4" of eye relief,while the vxIII varies with magnification.The cost is about the same for both.Be aware that the vxIII is actually a 3.3x9.6 so it compares very closely with other manufactureres 3x9s.

If you want to see an overcomplicated trigger assembly,the one below is that of an A-Bolt.It failed to fire after a week of hunting in the rain because despite the fact that it is a stainless rifle,that bit of corrosion on the long vertical rod caused it to jam.

I cant see that placing as a basis of compariosn, since that could happen to any rifle. Looks like someone should have oiled his rifle. I bet mine doesnt look like that.

Actually oiling a trigger assembly is not a good idea as it attracts dust that willgum up the assembly.Oil can also freeze in very cold weather,again,not a good situation for a trigger.

Out of curiosity,how many wildernesshunts have you been on where you lived out of an unheated tent for a week or more with frequent rain.All that you can do is wipe off the outside of your gun and clean it properly when you get home.If you take the action out of the stock every night to clean the trigger assembly,the point of impact can be effected.Unfortunately most people have never hunted under such conditions and simply don't understand.By the way,the other rifle used on the hunt,a model 70 functioned just fine although it was exposed to the same conditions.

Well, we usually just set up the tent for 3 days or so. It's usually only about 15F at night and I have alot of sleeping bags. I do hunt in rain, snow, whatevr. I have not hunted with the medallion yet ,stubble. I will test it out this season. I only spray a light coat of oil on the assembly as the manual says. Don't oil the internals and don't take it apart because youre just not supposed too. I'll leave that to a gunsmith.

BTW, I just shot 3 three shot groups. I pulled on the first shot and called it so we wont count it. I shot a .667, .434, and a .327. I can't find my camera, but my mother has one I will borrow tonight. I'll have the pics up before bedtime. I will admit though, these are the best groups I've shot with it yet but only by a hair. I couldnt shoot more than three because it's real hot here today. but ill post more tomorrow. I didnt shoot my 7mm saum either.

It sounds like your shooting went well,with two sub 1/2 moa groups out of three.Extremely good shootingfor a factory rifle.I look forward to seeing the groups.I only shoot three shot groups myself since my cartridges are such high capacity and heat up the barrel so much.I do however count all shots and don't call fliers since they average out over several groups anyways.
As for the pictures of the stainless a-bolt,they were taken on the coast of alaska where the conditions are extremely harsh.I find the conditions in the mountains very harsh as well and guns really get tested.Most rifles never see anythingclose to those conditions,but mine have on several occaisions.That is the reason that I only use stainless synthetic rifles.

My A-Bolt Stalker has hunted in cold nasty weather with ice and snow. It has a synthetic stock but its not stainless. I have not had any problems with the trigger at all. I do not ever put any oil on or even near the trigger. Mine is a 308 and it shoots better than I can.

I don't blame you for going stainless synthetic in alaska. Shewee! I bet it gets cold there in a tent. The only flyer I had today was my first shot and I knew it, so I shot three more at the first group. You'll be able to pick it out in the pictures later, I do believe this rifle could be a freak, as it's the best factory rifle of any brand I've ever shot. I dont knoe if a jumped the browning bamdwagon too soon or not. Im getting a m-1000 eclipse in 22-250 and if it shoots as good or better than this '06, I'll be a browning man I guess. I still like sako rifles though for ruggedness. Though I dont own one. I know a guy who hunts with one and is very rough on it. It's a finn-light 270. It's a rugged rifle and shoots moa usually. I'd say I'll have the medallion beat up pretty good by end of season. I dread that, it's so purdy! I'd like to get something in stainless synthetic for hunting in bad weather. Might get a stainless stalker in .308. then im thinking of getting a 7mm ultra remmy sendero. I'll have all of these within 3 years hopefully.
