280 rem or 270 win
I am wondering if anyone can tell me about the differences between the 280 rem and 270 win. I am not trying to start any long arguments over which is better or whatever...just looking for facts about what makes them different.
Thanks

They are so close either would do, both rounds are common if using store bought ammo but in that case go with the .270 win as the selection is greater. If reloading get the .280 rem because there is a greater selection of 7mm bullets out there. I personally like the .270 win even though I reload, no other reason than it is an old classic and I have used it for years.

The 280 is well suited for both deer and elk, unlike the 270 where elk/black bearbullets are hard to get hold of. 280 generally will take more variation in the loads and give fairlyconsistent accuracy with all; I don't know if some get a lucky 270 that shoots 'em all but usually they are more picky. Advantages of the 270 are easy to find factory ammo, and cheaper ammo at that. It's easier to get the rifle you want in this caliber. It recoils less, but not by much. If it were my choice I'd go for the 280

Personally, I prefer the .280, but as said six of one, a half a dozen of the other! Most game animals wouldn't know the difference if they were hit with a .308, .270, .280 or an '06!
BTW, the American caliber disignations can be very confusing! The .270 is actually .277, and the .280 or the 7MM Express is .284.

Nobody likes the 270 more than I do but the 280 is just a tad more gun in most departments. You can get heavier bullets in the 284 caliber which is what the 280 is. The 30-06, 280 and 270 use the same basic case and are all suitable for the same kind of hunting. All three have bullets with plenty of Sectional Density to hunt North America. The 280 may be the most versitile of the three. However I could live with any one of them if I had to. 280 Ammo does is not found everywhere, that may be its weak point but if you reload, you have it made.
