The .25-06 does have slight ballistic advantages, but, with weight and recoil penalties.Comparing the most common deer load for the two (100 gr. .243 v. 120 gr. .25-06), the trajectory is within about 1/4 inch from the muzzle all the way to 500 yards. And, you can't get the .25-06 in a compact short-action rifle like the Remington Model 7, which I think is ideal for this guy's application.

Have you thought much about a 308?? You can buy cheap Milt ammo for about $40 for 250rds and you can also carry a few good deer round if needed. I really hate to toot my own horn but I am also selling a Howa in that calaiber if you interested. Thanks Jovan
