RE: marlin guide gun
Yeah, but im still going to get a 450 some day, 1895m but ill wait awhile, maybe they'll make in stainless. I saw a show once where a guy shot a buffalo with a sharps in 45/70 and it wasnt very impressive. I dont think the old fur hunters could drop buffalo as easy as they said. Not with the 45/70 anyway.

What do you think a 2000 pound animal is going to do....just roll over when hit? Maybe if you get a spine shot or both shoulders but come on...the damn thing is the largest animal on this continent. There is nothing...repeat nothing....that a 450 can do that a 45-70 can't. especially if you handload. Take a 400 plus grain hardcast bullet and throw it a close to 2000 fps and it'll zip through a buffalo no problem. Besides I wasn't around 130 years ago to talk to any old fur hunters to get their opinion on what they think worked or not.......now all i have to do is listen to full of sh-t gunwriters who have been rehashing the same stories for 130 years.....with 130 years of someone else's spin on it.

goos blues, buy ya a 450!!
It's a great round! I just mentioned 444 because I knew they made that in Stainless like you were asking for.
There's a lot of hypeabout the 45/70, there always has been. I've got a couple of 444's and I can't tell you how many people have said "why didn't you buy a 45/70?" because I don't want a 45/70, I wanta 444!!!
(Sound familiar)
Sounds like you know exactly what you want and I'd say get it buddy!

I hear what you are saying about the .444 but the .450 and the 45/70 are basiclly the same round. The 45/70 is more user friendly by being able to find factory ammo at many locations. I hand load and I can make my 45/70 be any where on the power scale , up to and including the .450's range. The 45/70 is made in many brands and styles of rifles. That alone will change alot of minds. The .444 is a great round I had one for many years I just like the old 45/70 better. And its like shooting a piece of our history. Just think that was a military round for severl years !!!
