my wife wants to start hunting with me she's only 120 lbs so she is recoil sesetive. we go after mule deer/ elkin utah. she needs a gun mainly for the deerfor now but if I could get one that could work for elk toothat would be better any info will help thank you.

i bought my girlfriend a 7mm-08 Encore....... She loves it and she is also is abut the same size as your wife.....

i like the 7mm-o8 also, i was going to buy my wife one but ended up with a model 7 in 260 rem, i really like it also, but i'm kind of partial to the .284/7mm stuff

Goodcalibers for ladies that size wanting to hunt deer would be the 25-06, 7mm-08, 30-30,260,and 243.

Agreed 7mm 08 would serve her well for deer and elk hunts that maybe in her future.

size has nothing to with it. I am little and can handle more recoil than guys twice my size. I used to have a 30-06 when I weighed 90 lbs. I'm not going to say it didn't throw me around, but I shot it just fine.

I think the .243 is a great caliber though. I also think if she shot enough a .270 in the right rifle with a good recoil pad would make a nice all around gun for her. Just remember light guns kick more. And you really don't notice in the field.

No..a 7mm-08 is a 284 diameter bullet...in a .308 case...A .308 wouldn't be a bad choice either...or a .270...

I have a friend that loves his 25-06, but there are places where you are required to have a larger caliber to be legal for elk.
