Default want some advice

Next year I'm planing on getting a new gun. I hunt in very thick woods at best I might be able to get a 70 yard shot. I really want a lever action, just because I've never had one. I was wondering if a 30/30 with a 170 gr bullet is a good choice? Thanks for any help.

A good choice for what? Shooting through brush and trees? Shooting at deer? Hogs? Elk? If your shots are 70 yards and under then the 30-30 Win should work on deer and hogs, as long as you aren't brush-busting. There is no such thing as a bullet that will travel through brush without having its flight path altered.

3030, 45-70 guide gun, 3006 or what about 308. Really any gun would work at limited yardage, I just think some of the 30 cals or big bores are your best choice for in tight. Like fizzlr said &quot; no such think as a bush beater&quot;, so don't look for one. If you want a bush beater &quot;buy dynamite or gernade...little to much meat waste for me though&quot;<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

What type of gun do you have now? What will you use the new gun for?

Sorry guys its for deer hunting. I did clear some of my land this past summer, but i didn't want to over do it. I wasn't sure if it would spook the deer. I can get a clear shot up to 50-70 yards. skeeter I have a muzzle loader for ml season and i use a 300 savage for regular season. Both guns are great.

I use the 30-30 alot and have never had a problem. I use the Winchester 150 grain power point load and it does great. For under 100 yards it's a great gun. If your looking for something a little more fancy or powerful the Browning lever actions are great guns. Also the Marlin guide gun mentioned above is a fine gun.

Personally I would stick to the 300 Savage. However if you want a gun or just need a new toy, 3030 or 308 lever would be fine for deer.

My vote would be for the Marlin 336 in 35 REM. I find the 35 to be superior to the 30-30, especially if you reload.

I vote with duckbill. But if you can handle the recoil, get a Marlin .45/70. Avoid the .450 Marlin caliber.

Keep yore powder dry!!
