Default Buyer Beware

The first time in my life my son got me somthing for fathersday and it was a Tasco world class scope that is where the problems becan I had a 7mm mauser I just finished and put thatscope on it God what a peace of JUNK point of aim was everyware 3 inchs high next shot 7 inchs low I change to a old Burris I had and it shoots great. I call Tasco to send it back for repair and was told they would not fix it unless I payed for it. I ask what about the warr. and was told that the scope was made before 2003 and they would not honner the warr. It was not my son fault that it set on the dealer shelf for 3 years. A lesson well learned never never buy a Tasco scope which is now own by Bushnell and they are junk to.

although I agree with you on tasco and they should go by your sales receipt intead of when the scope was made. I must stand up for Bushnell. Their upper line scopes are some of the best made. But we all have the ones we like best.

I have own 2 bushnell scope and they are both in the trash now but that has been a few years ago. I dont care how makes the scope as long as it is a good scope. I have 4 different kinds of scopes in the gun cabint and all are good scope I hate to say it but I even have a Barski (6-24-44 extreme tact. scope) that I just love. But like I said if it is a good scope I don't care who makes it and they stand behind it with there warr.

I just got rid of my tasco and got a bushnell. This is for my cheap rig ( a nef 243) it now works like a charm. Holds its center right on. I say if you spend a little you get a little. EJ

Once you get below 100 bucks for a standard hunting scope they are all pretty much hit and miss, doesn't matter who makes them. And the higher the magnification and objective size the more they should cost. Good scopes just cost more, it's a fact of life. Some of the cheaper scopes will function just fine, they just have poor optics is all.

My honest opinion, if you are looking for a hunting scope in the 3-9 power range with fixed parallax I would look at scopes that retail for around $200. Sometimes you can get better deals on the internet though. Not that a cheaper scope will not work, just don't be shocked if you have a problem with it or the optics are not that great.

That being said I have two bushnell trophy scopes that are excellent for the money, they are 1.75-4X32. That is the cheapest scope I will buy and they retail for around $100.

Scopes I can recommend are Bushnell Trophy, bushnell 3200, Simmons Aetec, or a 44 mag if you can find one, Mueller (spelling?) and the higher end Barska scopes. The cheap ones are crap though. I also really like the cabela's brand scopes like the Alaskan guide series. I have one and really like it.

If you look at a scope and it sounds too good to be true, like a 6.5-20X50 with adjustable objective varmint scope for $130 bucks or something then chances are it is too good to be true. You just can't get a $500 scope for 100 bucks and expect it to really work that well. You would be better off spending a bit more money on a standard 3-9x40 hunting scope that will look better and function correctly.

Just my opinions any way.

I agree you get what you pay for I own mostly Burris scopes but this was a gift from my son and to me just that fact makes it worth $1000.00 even if it is a peace of junk at least he was thinking of me and I would never tell him that it is a peace of sh$t I just thanked him for thinking of me. He lives in michigan and will never know because he does not like to hunt. I must admitt he is a good son he just made a bad choice.

I did the same thing with my dad when I was younger. He has a marlin lever action .22 that had an old redfield scope on it. It was foggy and kind of nasty to look thru. So for fathers day one year I got him a new tasco with the TV view lenses. It's a small diameter scope with not much power and I'm sure it was cheap since I was a kid. However it was better than the scope that he had on it. He still has it on the gun 25 years later.

I'm sure he knows he could do better on optics, but I bet it's still on there because I bought it with my own money for him. ( To be honest I got it because I loved that gun but hated that foggy scope, shhhhh) And when I inherit it the scope will most likely stay on it, providing it works.

I tell my family now that if they want to give me a gift hunting related to just give me a gift certificate or take me shopping. Especially with archery equipment. Unless it's a knife, you just can't go wrong getting me a knife.

for a guy that shoots 3/4" groups at 200 yards with iron sights I'm surprised you would waste your time with a scope at all.

Vapordog Like I said I will putMY money where MY mouth is and have. But when I put some seasios money you backed out! the offer still stands just get you're money ready. Like I said who ever loses payes for the plane ticket (about $600.00) and then the $100.00 on top of that the total bet will be adout $700.00 or $800.00 dollar put up or shutup. God you have harp on that statement about .750 groups for to long. give it a rest. I am retired and can fly out anytime you what to pay. I will make time this weekend to go to the range and shoot and post some pics for you of the gun and the target if you won't put you're money up that is the best I can do.
