RE: Rifle for Turkey Hunting
I use a 222 Remington. 55 grain SP bullet. I aim at the wing butt, that will back the spine & anchor the bird at the spot. Check your wildlife regs, here in Colorado the 22 Mag is the minimum, if you use a hollow-point and pick your shots out to about 75 yards I think you will be ok. I put that 22 Mag comment in because of your handle.

Illegal in Ontario, archery or shotgun only. Shotgun can only be #4,5 or 6.
We are still re-introducing wild turkeys so this may change when we have a wider, more stable population, but I doubt it.

I have shot a few with a 22mag...and it works, but is not ideal. I like the 22 hornet. I shoot 'em right where the legs join the body. That puts em down for good. If they can't run, they can't fly.
That said...I don't like shooting them with a rifle. Too much meat damage, and if you are off just a bit, the bird will get gone in a hurray.

I use a Tikka combo gun. 12ga. on the top and .222 on the bottom. Best of both worlds. Just make sure you select the right barrel for the job. That 12ga. is a real surprise when you think it's going to be the .222.
