WELCOME!! I second the votes for a good cheap shotgun that will chamber 2 2/4 " and 3" shells. Look at the Remington 870 express, NEF Pardner, or H & R single shot. You can get a rifled barrel for (I beliee) 40 bucks or so. Then use some good slugs like breneke for deer. Should be good to about 150 yards. Make sure you get a full choke or a turkey choke for turkey. If you mount a low power scope (2X or so) you can leave it on for turkey and deer.
good luck

Not another squidly! I am 16 yr Army vet, so had to take the poke. I like the 870 super mag combo that I bought a few years back, but that type of package limits you to a shotgun for deerhunting. You could look at the Stevens, made by savage and pick one up in a .270 or .30-06 for a reasonable price and then buy a single shot shotgun as well.
I have very limited experience with the combo guns, so could not given you a solid suggestion. Browse the guns stores and pawn shops and you will find something. Good luck and thanks for your service.

One problem I see with rifle/shotgun combination guns (one gun with two barrels) is that you could run afoul of local hunting regulations. Here in California some public land is designated as shotgunonly and mere possession of a rifle or pistol in these areasis a violation whether or not you are actually hunting with the rifle barrel. During the Spring Turkey season possession of a rifle while hunting is prohibitedon public lands opened for turkey hunting.

As others have mentioned above it might be best to get a 12 gauge shotgun that could be used for birds and small game and on deer, albeit at shorter range than a rifle, with slugs or buckshot.
