Default Need Info on Ithica 37

Hi,
I have an old 37 Ithica 12 guage. I was wondering if I could just by any Ithica model 37 barell.{Serial number 596028-2}

The reason I'm asking.Cabelas was selling them along time ago but the serial number had to be over 700,000. I hope someone can help me out. I need a new barell.the gun was left to me from my grandfather.I'd like to buy a 3" magnum if available.
Thanks,C7

PS If you saw this on the classified I apologize. I posted this at the wrong place.

I believe that in the older Ithaca 37's, the barrels were individually fitted and headspaced, as were most of the early pump shotguns. But, I see no reason why the current Ithaca manufacturer could not replace the barrel.

Here is my answer from Ithica,

Chuck: Your gun was made in the early 1950's and yes the current barrel can fit the older gun, however they may need to be slightly fixed. Although the new barrels have interchangeable chokes which are improved cylinder, full, and modified. We do provide a Turkey choke tube that will fix our replacement barrels but those are sold separately. Your gun even with a new barrel on it can only use 2 3/4 inch shells though. If your have any addition question please feel free to inquire. ClintThanks guys,Chuck7

Chuck as I understood My Gunsmith, The older Model 37's had the serial # stamped on the end of the reciever , not the side like the newer models, Also asked Ithaca awhile back before they sold to MoldCraft out of sandusky , Ohio, To make a barrel for my Older model 37 , The barrell alone was around $200.00 & the fitting charge was around $75....... But just bought a Ithaca 16 gauge interchangeable Barrel & chokes tubes From IthacaGunsAmerica for $249.00, if that helps ...

Now i asked that question as well a year ago & was told i could as long as you were using the correct choke tube with it, But if its fixed choke I would say yes you could, Now the older / Older sxs I have no idea, But i have a LaFever Nitro special sxs full choked & told i could with that, because of it being a Nitro special........do a search on ElmiraArms, located in Elmira , NY They specalize in Ithaca guns..

OK I e-mailed the Ithaca company. I was calling Cabelas about 1 hour ago ordering when she read me the warning about steel shot in some barrels.So I canceled my order since it's an older gun. I did shoot a Winchester Magnum load today to see how it pattered at 30 yds. Only got 7 pellets in a 2 inch circle so I was interested in the Remington Hevi Loads. On sale at Cabelas #5 shot for 17.50 a box of 10
