Default Best Groups Ever!

I've been working up a Coyote load for my Rem 700 Mtn LSS 7mm-08 using Sierra 100 Grn HP's and RE15. When shooting the work up loads a couple of weeks ago it was a bit windy. Even so, I only had two 3 shot groups that went over 1" (just barely) @ 100 Yds and the rest were in the .5"-.8" range. I left that day thinking this combo definitely had potential.

Today the wind was a good bit calmer, but my first three groups were just terrible. 1.94", 1.296" and then a wopping 2.153". I'm thinking "what the heck went wrong here?". I couldn't blame it on the load because I had done mutch better with it the first time out and that was "in the wind". So, the only thing left to blame was.......me!

With that in mind, I really tried to settle down and started focusing on technique. The rest of the groups came in as follows: 0.788", 0.678", 0.415".....(steadily improving)....and the last two groups came in at 0.242" and 0.345". These are the two best groups I have ever shot with this rifle.

I only had time to shoot one group at 200Yds and it came in at 1.685".

Got to tell ya.....I'm pumped!!!...... ......Coyotes beware!!!!!

Here's a pic:

that's looking real good. you should shoot a few 5-shot groups though. group size is judged on 5 shots, not three. having said that, if you superimpose one group on the other, they are both shooting pretty much the same point of impact.

keep up the good work.

P-S . my best (5 shot) group so far has been just on .3 inch with a T-3 Varmint in 22-250. i've also had quite a few put 3 or four into one ragged hole, but then open it up to around 1/2 inch with the last shot! D'oh!

Excellent job man. I have had a tough time getting my 308, 7mm-08 and 243's to shoot bad. They are so much easier to load up for.

Thanks guys!!!

I'll be shooting some more 3 & 5 shot groups just to make sure that this isn't some kind of a fluke. If the pattern holds, I expect I'll be going back and reworking some ofmy "tried & true" 3/4"-1" loads that I used to be perfectly happy with...LOL.

I did bring my chrono with me today, but forgot the tri-pod...duh But when I was shooting the work up loads, the 46.0 Grn load averaged 3,059 FPS.

Everything I've tried in my 7mm-08 has been sub MOA, except 140 Grn & 150 Grn Nosler BT's and even they shot 1 1/4".

I agree with the rest----good shootin'. That ol' 7-08 is a great round, and I had little trouble getting mine to shoot good, also. Makes up for some of the other monsters that have caused me to age before my time..........!!

I haveone of those short stubby 7wsm that a lot of people don,t think much of and it was brought out just to sell guns.
The Rem 700 24" Hart barreled light hunter 6.7lbsI got last year, shoots amazing groups check photo last three shot group with 4831 & 140gr BT Noslers, under .125 "
And if you go to this site www.6mmbr.com and go to Gun of the week link
Ric Horst's 7wsm 5 shots at 1000 yds under 5" pretty awsome
The .308 for me was the first short mag and your 7mm08 is a good one two.
And the short stubby ones seem to shoot the best of all cartridges.
Look what the 6.5,284 another short stubby one does at 1000ydsand don't forget what the 6ppc does to the .222& 22.250 on the range they just can't beat the short stubby ones.
