RE: concealed carry

ORIGINAL: Windwalker7

I have had my PA permit for several years but rarely carry. When I first got it, all those years ago, I carried all the time. Maybe its time I get mea new pistol and start packing again?

I have had the same problem about finding a "confortable" gun to carry. I have tried all sizes of Glocks, Sig P228, Walther PPK,and a Colt 1911 but all were too large and heavy for me to conceal confortably. About a year ago, I got into S&W "wheel guns" and found that my "perfect" easily concealable carry gun is a S&W M38. It is the "bodyguard" style and an airweight. I can carry it all day and actually forget that I have it on me. Wheel guns aren't for everyone, but it might be something to consider.

When I first got my permit, almost 20 years ago, I carried a S&W Model 19. Then I got a Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag. and carried that. LOL! Let's face it.......I was an idiot LOL! That was back when having the permit was new. Then I carried a cheap little Jennings .22 auto. After a while I just quit carrying. I even sold the Redhawk and Mod. 19.

Today all I got is a Ruger Security-six that my dad gave me. I've been looking at the 9mm's and 45's. I don't know. Maybe I'll just carry the Ruger Security-Six and save the money.

I have a relatedquestion to pose here. Do you who carry ona daily basis wear "special" clothing to conceal your weapon? The main reason that I carry my Smith airweight is that it fits comfortably in my boot top. I prefer to carry in my waistband forquicker, easieraccess, but without wearing something like a jacket, I can't completely conceal my gun. Any suggestions?

Retreiverman, In the winter time I just wear a jacket and carry it in a paddle holster on my belt.

In the summer I carry it inside the waist of my pants in the small of my back and leave my shirt untucked.

However, I am 6'2" and weight 275 pounds so it's not all that hard co hide a gun on my body if I just wear loose clothing. I don't like that "tactical" cloting made specifically for hiding guns, magazines, etc... To me it just screams that you are packing.

I won't sayI wear 'special' clothing, but I do make some concessions to concealed carry. I carry mostly IWB. I buy all my pants one size larger...I wear Wrangler jeans, for instamce, in a size 38 waist. I buy 40s. I wear a good gunbelt (doubled cowhide) in all my pants. For casual wear, I dress in pullover shirts almost exclusively. If you buy pullovers that are somewhat heavy, and have a "busy" pattern, any little bulge is much less noticeable. If I do wear a tucked in shirt, I wear a Goodrich & Gould bellyband.

I've carried almost everywhere possible in the last ten years. I've been to symposiums with several hundred people, I've spoken to groups of 100 people or more from a stage, and I've had dealings with LEOs several times, and have NEVER been made.
