I just put a red dot on my marlin 44 mag after setting scope on a rest
I shot standing offhand and my point of impact changed I then moved my head on the stock centering my view and the point of impact came back.
Looks like how you hold the gun is going to be real important, is this right.
Are they as accurate as a regular scope.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about all red dot scopes, but the one im sure will not change POI by moving your head from one spot on the stock is the eotech (or bushnell holosight). A regular optic isnt going to make the gun more accurate, but make it easier to shoot smaller groups and hit with at longer ranges.

I had the same problem with the red dot on a Huntsman muzzleloader. The Huntsman had the same stock as a shot gun and my chin didn't stay planted on the stock. It caused me to miss 2 deer one week. Went home and changed the receiver to a monte carlo type stock with some pipe insulation under a elastic shell holder. Killed 2 deer in one day on the next trip. Zeak

I use 3/4" pipe insulation, its the kind that is preformed for copper and steel pipe. I just cut a piece of it to fit under the shell holder and trim off about 1/2" off each side where it butts together. Usually its got a sticky end where they butt together. You can also tapper the 2 ends that are cut to lenght. I then use some electrical tape and tape the 2 ends to the stock. Slip the shell holder over the insulation keeping the insulation completly under the holder. If that isn't enough just use 2 pieces. It also feels good on the chin also. Any hardware or lumber yard will have it and the cost is cheap. Zeak
