If you could select only two NON-MAGNUM rifle cartridges for hunting all North American HOOVED game, what would they be?
Why?

Make mine a .308 with 165grain or 180 grain partitions.
With good shot placement it should take anything.
My other gun would be a 45-70 with my 420 grain lead bullets with a tang sight and a globe front. Only way to hunt buffalo(bison).

i would have to say...
#1 my F.N. sporter in 35 whelen with either 225gr. TBBC's or 250gr. rem core-lokt's
#2 ( i don't own this gun yet !! but someday ) browning BLR-81 in 358win. using 225gr. win silver tips.
both are more than enough for almost any game in the U.S.

Yeah, Quilly, I'd have to agree with you about longing for a BLR-81. I once came across two in pristine condition that I promptly bought. I gave one, a 7mm/08, to my brother (he still uses it to take everything).
I kept the.284 Win and it was one of the best all-around hunting rifles I've ever owned. But like most of us, I did something I will forever regret and I sold the thing. I'd give up almost any other gun to get it back.

My Ruger MkII M-77 in .30-06, drop 'em quick, and a Ruger Super Redhawk in Either .454 Cassul or .480 ruger. I REALLY love handgun hunting, and you said no mags, so I stepped up from my .44 mag SBH, to the .454, and the .30-06 is a fav from way back!!!
Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!

I would go with the 7mm and 300 dakota.Neither has a belt and nowhere in their name is magnum mentioned.I would use the 7mm for deer and smaller game and the 300 for moose and elk. Then again the short lazzeroni 7mm and 338 would be just as good.
