Default Mossberg 500 vs. Remington 870

I'v been looking for a shotgun for a long time but have been between a Mossberg 500 Bantam 12-Gauge or a Remington 870. What do you think would be best for both Turkey and Other game birds? What length of barrel do you think is best for all game?

Why not think about the Mossberg 835 or 935? My belief is that you have better options if you go the ulti-mag route.

I prefer the 870 over any mossberg.

The Rem. 870 is a much higher quality pump action firearm.

I have a Mossberg 835 and a Remington 870 SPS Turkey and an 870 Wingmaster. The backbored barrel on the 835 doesn't pattern nearly as well as the 870s with turkey loads but the 500 is not over bored so you wouldent have that problem.I have fully rifled cantilevered scope mount barrels for both, and they both shoot expensive sabots very well.I just bought a cantilever scope mount smoothbore for my 870s and it shoots cheap Brenneke KOs as good as the sabots for a lot less money. If I had to choose between a Mossberg 500 and a Remington 870 I would deffinitaly go with the 870.I really like the way they shoot,There are more after market accessories available and their scope barrels are only 20" long

I would go with the 870 mag express if you can get it. The express allows you to go to 3 1/2" mag shells - although I do not know why you might need them- except maybe geese but having a little more than you need is not wrong. The 870 Mag is 3" max...

Mine is the Mag and I have three barrels for it - 26" for turkey and general hunting a 28" because that is what came with it and is the most popular barrel and a 30" for trap shooting.

870 because it does pattern a lot better than the mossberg 500 (or at least that's what my brother-in-law said)
